Van Buren Editorial

Paint in oils an American president with a published illustrator for inspiration and use the painting in an editorial spread.

I was inspired in my creative process by a newer illustrator, Victoria Borge, of a painting she created of a fawn and a woman’s head.

Van Buren earned the title, “Red Fox,” during his presidency and I could envision the fox coming out from under his hat, almost part of him—similar to the Borge’s illustration.

  • Pencil sketch combining a fox with VanBuren
  • Oil wash canvas
  • Oil paints, large brush strokes,…
  • Prove, “it looks worse before it gets better.”
